Reila Bird
Reila Bird is a member of George Gordon First Nation and was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. She is a proud Cree woman, mother, educator, independent consultant and co-owner of Indy Construction Management, an asphalt paving construction company. Reila is currently a Project Consultant for George Gordon Developments Ltd. working closely with local and national corporate clients, small business owners, non-profit organizations, provincial and federal governments, and First Nation communities across Saskatchewan’s diverse business landscape. With a career spanning over 25 years in both the education and business sectors, her two-eyed seeing perspective combines a strong passion for Indigenous education and advocacy with a solid foundation in business development. Reila’s academic journey included roles as a K-12 school teacher, Indigenous education consultant for Prairie Valley School Division, an instructor at both the University of Regina and the First Nations University of Canada. In addition, she served as Director of the First Nations University of Canada’s Indigenous Continuing Education Centre where she played a key role in establishing the business plan and framework which included the creation of its program development strategy, strategic plan, and customized educational offerings. Reila values respectful relations and collaboration between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. With her background and expertise in Indigenous relations initiatives, education, leadership, and economic development, she is well positioned to continue driving reconciliation initiatives forward.
